Licensed Professional Counselor

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I am also working toward earning dual licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist this year. I am originally from Humble, Texas, though my journey in education and clinical practice has taken me all around the country! I began by earning my Bachelor's degree at Boston University and volunteering on a 24/7 crisis line in order to support individuals struggling with the various stressors of parenthood; I then moved forward with earning my Master's degree at Palo Alto University in California, where I worked extensively as a therapist with children and families through an at-risk youth shelter and a community mental health agency in the Bay Area. My last stop before moving back to my home state was with a clinic-based mental health agency in Oregon, where I provided therapy to children, couples, families, and adults.

I have had the opportunity to learn and grow in truly special ways from the many different settings I have worked in across states, and varied populations with whom I have worked. In the process, I have learned - whether I am engaging in sand-tray play therapy with a young child, expressive arts therapy and mindfulness with a teenager and their family, healthy communication and conflict resolution with couples, or supporting an individual in staying grounded and challenging their cognitive distortions - a positive and trusting therapeutic relationship is key, as is having a therapist that understands all of the stressors that can wear down one's mental health and how to combat them effectively. By examining The Eight Dimensions of Wellness and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, we can see how our mental health is intertwined and influenced by many factors, and how to strengthen these other needs and areas of our lives.

I firmly believe that everyone deserves an approach and plan that works for them, as therapy is not always a one-size-fits-all; our work together will be based around what you identify to be areas that need support or improvement. I utilize evidence-based practices in my work, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (including Alternatives for Families CBT, Trauma-focused CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and other integrative approaches.  I also believe that as your therapist, we both have a lot to learn from one another! You are the expert when it comes to your own life, your history, your culture, and everything in between. I seek to empower my clients toward significant, positive changes that work for them and that can be sustained long-term in their daily lives, and I am honored to witness and share in your story. Above all else, I strive for my clients to feel safe, heard, seen, understood, and unconditionally accepted.
